Caminito

This colourful remnant of the original Boca district has been restored/prepared for tourists to experience the brightly painted zinc facades of a bygone era. It was a tradition of the original Genoese immigrants to use up paint left over from shipbuilding to brighten up and protect their homes. There are a few shops for souvenirs, and cafes with tango dancers to entertain visitors, and a museum. Be careful not to walk outside of the immediate area, because Boca has a poor reputation for safety. In fact the local police will probably stop you from entering dangerous streets.

Palermo is a lovely green district originally created in the 17th century by Giovanni Domenico Palermo. In the early 20th century Charles Thays developed the wonderful parks in Palermo to make it a much sought after residential area for the more affluent Buenos Aires citizens. The Botanical Gardens are perhaps the best example of Thays work. He created different areas to represent the different areas of the country with their own typical vegetation, flora and trees.
