Los Cristianos, Tenerife
Le Bistrot d`Alain
The specials board is sensational. This small restaurant serves up superb French cuisine fashioned from over 20 years initial experience in Paris followed by 22 years in Tenerife. Try the medaillones of pork with pruneaux or the veal slices in white wine and mushroom sauce - both wonderful. For postres, just imagine how great these will be! you will not be disappointed. |

Los Cristianos, Tenerife
Don Antonio
Amid the bustle of the many excellent restaurants in the Calle General Franco is this gem. Unlike its overly-persuasive neighbours, Don Antonio just rely on great service and cooking. They offer the usual varied range of dishes but add a little extra imagination to make all the difference. Their pasteles are to die for, and ridiculously low priced!

Café la Bahía
The Café La Bahia is one of 14 restaurants, cafés and bars in the Bahia del Duque hotel in Costa Adeje. However this café is an informal little restaurant on the promenade, and open to any customer who appreciates a nice lunch made with good ingredients and not a little inspiration. If you enjoy simple food served with elegance and style, don`t miss this little gem. It is open throughout the day until 5pm |

(The café is the one with the parasols in the foreground - the grand architectural edifice in the background is the excellent Bahia del Duque Hotel) |
Torrevieja
El Meson de la Costa
If you enjoy your food and don`t mind paying for quality, then pay a visit to El Meson de la Costa on calle Ramon y Cajal. At the entrance there is a superb display of the things to enjoy. A fantastic selection of fish, meat and starters is on offer. This restaurant is definitely one of the best in Torrevieja. Just make sure you know the cost of what you are tempted to eat! |

Torrevieja
Casa Acequion
This is the fabulous view of the marina from a table at Casa Acequion, a modest beachside restaurant which offers a full 3 course menu del dia including a drink for just 10 euros. It is a typical bustling Spanish eatery which cares about giving you great value for your money - and they achieve this in spades. They immediately give you a generous basket of fresh tasty bread and quickly bring your drinks. There is a wide choice of food in each course, well cooked. They even just left the bottle of red wine on the table and charged nothing extra for it. Coffees included also. |

Extra observation
When I inadvertantly gave the cashier 2x20 euro notes by mistake, he immediately shouted after me that I had paid them too much. Their tip took an increase!

Alicante - Old Town
al medina restaurante
One of the best eateries in this area is Al Medina in Plaza Santisima Faz. A really smart, efficient resto with great food and a friendly cosmopolitan staff. Ask for Nory the charming house manager from Algeria. He is really friendly and if you can manage a little French, he will take care of you like royalty. |

This place is always full of Spaniards but be brave and use some of your Spanish. There are plenty of bar staff, so you are soon served. Choose two or three of the dishes displayed on the counters and don`t miss a glass of the cava on offer, it`s delicious. |

Nerja
Restaurant Merendero Ayo
One of the best paellas on the Costa del Sol has been served up for forty years at Ayo`s. Situated on the excellent Burriana beach, Ayo cooks huge paellas over wood barbecues all day long. The restaurant is always packed but you still seem to be able to find a table. On a hot day on the Sol, the thatched roof provides welcome shade as you enjoy your meal. Don`t miss this great experience! |

Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote
La Cañada
If you like your meat, then La Cañada on calle Cesar Manrique is the place to head. The chef cooks your order on the barbecue in the front of the restaurant and you can book a seat nearby to watch the spectacle. Portion sizes are large so beware filling up on other less important accompaniments. If your Spanish is reasonable, talk to the Cabrera family who run and work in the restaurant - they are really nice people. |

La Manga del Mar Menor
Restaurante Christina
.If you would like to experience a truly authentic Spanish lunchtime restaurante, then make your way to Restaurante Christina, at the Nuevo Puerto Bello Bloque, opposite the Nuevas Sirenas apartments. The place was absolutely buzzing with Spaniards, and it was easy to see why. The menu del dia included: gazpacho; revuelto con guisantes; magra; lomo de cerdo; melon (two massive slices); tarta; and coffee. Also included was the complimentary starter salad and wine or water. The bill for two was 16 euros!! Unbelievable value. |
