SPANISH ART STYLES

and other European styles

 

Baroque
The predominant painting between 1600 through the 17th century and early 18th century. Paintings feature rich deep colours and extremes of light and dark. Dramatic points made as the action was happening, in contrast to Renaissance Art, which usually showed it afterwards. It was associated with the Catholic counter reformation.

Barroco

El cuadro predominante entre 1600 a través del siglo 17 y principios de siglo 18. Pinturas ricos de la característica colores profundos y extremos de la luz y la oscuridad. Puntos Dramático hecho como la acción que estaba ocurriendo, en contraste con el arte Renacentista, que por lo general se lo mostró después. Ha sido asociada con la Contrarreforma católica.

Rococo

Uses delicate colours and rounded forms, with a preponderance of love themes and cherubs. In portraits there was often an element of cheekiness and nudity in reaction against the rather staid Baroque`s church influence. Countryside scenes were common showing outings of well to do couples.

Rococo

Utiliza los colores delicados y formas redondeadas, con una preponderancia de temas de amor y querubines. En los retratos a menudo existe un elemento de descaro y la desnudez en reacción contra la influencia de la iglesia en lugar sobrio barroco. Campo eran comunes las escenas que muestran salidas de bien para parejas ricas.

Neoclassicism

Jacques David was one of the most important painters in the 1780s. His more serious painting, especially of history was a move away from the frivolous approach of Rococo. A more classical austerity in sympathy with the times of the ancien regime, consolidated a marked transition from earlier periods.

Neoclassicism

Jacques David fue uno de los pintores más importantes de la década de 1780. Su pintura más grave, sobre todo de la historia fue un partida del enfoque frívolo del rococó. Una austeridad más clásica en simpatía con los tiempos del antiguo régimen, consolidó; una notable transición de periodos anteriores.

Characterised by nationalism and the glories of war epitomised in France by J.A.Gros paintings of Napoleon`s victories and in Spain by Goya`s portrayal of the horrors of war in The Third of May,1808.

Realism

This form of art grew in France in the mid 1800`s and was focused on painting things as they actually are ie reality, rather than some ideal. Subjects were everyday things in the world and often poorer people and their lives, as opposed to the aristocracy which had been the focus of other styles. Realism is also referred to as `Naturalism`.

Realisme

Las cosas de esta forma de arte creció en Francia en el 1800 a mediados y se centró en la pintura, ya que la realidad en realidad son, es decir, en lugar de un ideal. Los sujetos fueron todos los días las cosas en el mundo y las personas más pobres a menudo y sus vidas, en oposición a la aristocracia, que había sido el foco de otros estilos. El realismo es también conocida como `naturalismo`.
