Spanish wines - Vino Rosado

The climate of Spain is an essential element in the creation of some stunning wines.Everyone has heard of Rioja the quintessential Spanish nectar and it well deserves the world wide accolades it has received over the years. If you are a wine enthusiast like me you will certainly savour the powerful fruitiness and the wonderful aromas of these tasty red wines. Here is a selection from some well known producers:-

Marques de Caceres, Rioja Rosado 2006
This wine is from one of the major producers in Rioja, and is 0% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha. It has a strong syrup like flavour but is smooth and full of fruit - strawberries and red currants are predominant. You can drink this wine with almost anything; it goes really well with pork dishes.

Casillero del Diablo Shiraz Rosé 2006, Central Valley
The Concha y Toro `Cellar of the devil` range of wines are all excellent. The Shiraz grapes create a spicy rose with aromas of blackberries and raspberries. This juicy fruit flavour means the wine can be drunk equally as a fine aperitif or with food.
Torres De Casa Rosado 2005, Catalunya
This wine originated from a visit to the USA in the nineteen forties by Miguel Torres` father. There appeared to be a great demand from wine tasters for a new style of rose. Torres worked hard at creating this fantastic blend of Garnacha and Carinena grapes to yield a classic wine. This is typical of the strong syrup flavoured well balanced Spanish rosados which melt in the mouth and finish with a wonderfully fruity sensation. Any food will go with this wine.
Good source: Most wine stores and supermarkets.

Agramont Garnacha Rosé 2005 Navarra Spain
This is another fruity rosado with strong strawberry aromas and a clean finish. A super wine either on its own or with summer salads or light dishes of all descriptions.
Good source: Sainsburys
Care Tempranillo Cabernet Rosé 2005 Spain
A new wine with modern packaging produced in the developing Carinena region. This blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon produces an amazingly crisp and dry red berry flavour. Ideal for drinking on sunny days with salads or by itself.

Faustino V - Rosado 2006

This is a first class Tempranillo rosado from the Rioja region with a clean bright strawberry pink colour.Taste is predominantly raspberries and rose petals with slight acidity and an elegant aftertaste.
