QUESTIONS

PREGUNTAS

Questions are phrases or sentences which involve seeking some kind of information either simple or complex. When you think about conversations in ordinary daily life, they are often littered with questions of all varieties. Most questions are formed by altering the word order of a sentence or using special question 'trigger' words, or many times just by an upward change in the intonation of the voice.

 

QUESTIONS BY WORD ORDER CHANGE
He did it - El lo ha hecho Did he do it? - Lo ha hecho el?
Your brother saw him - Su hermano lo ha visto Did your brother see him? - Lo ha visto su hermano?
The book is here - El libro esta aqui Is the book here - Esta el libro aqui?

 

QUESTIONS USING SPECIAL QUESTION WORDS:-

 

ADJECTIVES
1) Qué - what, which (singular and plural)

Ejemplos (examples):

¿Qué vino te gusta más? - Which wine do you (familiar) like the most?


¿Qué deportes juegan ustedes? - Which sports do you (formal) play?

2) Cuánto/a - how much, how many (singular)

Ejemplo (example):

¿Cuánto dinero gastó? - How much money did you (formal) spend?

3) Cuántos/as - how much, how many (plural)

Ejemplo (example):

¿Hay cuántas casas en pueblo? - How many houses are there in the village?

 

 

PRONOUNS

4) Qué - what, which

Ejemplo (example):

¿Qué están haciendo? - What are they doing?

5) Cuál/cuales - which, what

Ejemplo (example):

¿Cuales de estas camisetas te gusta más? - Which of these T-shirts do you like best?

6) Quién/quienes - who

Ejemplo (example):

¿Quién ganó el premio? - Who won the prize?

7) Por qué - why

Ejemplo (example):

¿Por qué no trabajas hoy? - Why aren't you working today?

8) A quién/quienes - whom Ejemplo (example):

¿A quién viste ayer? - Whom did you (familiar) see yesterday?

9) De quién - whose

Ejemplo (example):

¿De quién es esta coche? - Whose is this car?

 

GENERAL

10) Hay - is there, are there

Ejemplo (example):

¿Hay un restaurante cerca de aquí? - Is there a restaurant near here?

11) Cómo - how

Ejemplo (example):

¿Cómo te gustaría ir al cine? - How would you like to go to the cinema?

12) Dónde - where Ejemplo (example):

¿Dónde está la plaza mayor? - Where is the main square?

13) Cuando - when

Ejemplo (example):

¿Cuando vamos al restaurante? - When are we going to the restaurant?
