Los Cristianos

Los Cristianos nestles in a pretty bay on the south side of the small mountain called Montana Chayofita in a natural setting for a bustling port. See at the bottom of the page, the panorama shots of the seafront area of Los Cristianos taken from the port.

Los Cristianos has an old town which pre-dates the tourist boom development of the sixties. Charming narrow roads are home to some excellent bars, restaurants and shops. If you were staying here self-catering, there would be no shortage of lovely little corner shops selling good fayre.

In recent years the town has really cleaned-up its appearance and the paseo bordering the beach is well maintained with ample seating for that well earned rest if you have worked just a little too long in the heat. There are pretty plants all along the way.

The beach is large, clean and golden with stunning backdrop of the hills forming a shelter for the bay.

A lot of care and attention has been given to the establishing of greenery even adjacent to the seafront. This is a pleasant spot to holiday. los-cristianos-playa.jpg
The pretty white church in the Plaza del Carmen with bell tower which chimes hourly. A hive of activity on Sundays when organ and trumpet music resonates from the choir loft. los-cristianos-iglesia-cerca-plaza-carmen.jpg
View from the balcony of Hotel Reveron Plaza down the Calle General Franco, a busy pedestrian precinct throughout the day and main thoroughfare down to the port and beach. Los-Cristianos-view-calle-gen-franco.jpg
Plaza del Carmen is a bustling little square at the the foot of Mount Chayofita and is brought to life at the beginning of the day by the bells of the church. It is at the top of the pedestrian precincts which make up the old town of Los Cristianos, and are now popular shopping spots and restaurant quarter for the locals and the tourists. Reveron Plaza is an excellent hotel overlooking Plaza del Carmen and in a central position for exploring the town and amenities. The staff are particularly helpful and friendly and will even be patient with you if you try out your Spanish with them! Los-Cristianos-hotel-reveron-plaza.jpg
The Centro cultural and council offices at the top of Calle General Franco, and just down the road from the bus station. The centre is used for all kinds of cultural activities, music events, and community initiatives. It is obviously quite a modern building showing further evidence of the work done by the town to improve its faciities and image for its local people and tourists. los-cristianos-centro-cultural.jpg
There are first rate restaurants all over Los Cristianos. La Taberna Rustica offered a great selection of tapas and two glasses of Sangria for under 13 Euros in October 2010. Don't mind too much being enthusiastically encouraged to partake of this offer by the staff, they are genuinely wanting you to enjoy the excellent value lunch. los-cristianos-taberna-rustica.jpg

View of the inner port, old town and developments up the side of Montana Chayofita.

Slopes on Mount Chayofita and part of central beach area of blue hamacas and sombrillas. The pedestrian area is hidden from view. The rest of the beach area and seaview apartments and hotels nestle under the distant looming presence of 1400m high montana Coloradas, several kms. inland.

Away from the original old town permission was given to build some high rise hotels near the seafront. The unique circular architecture of the vivid white painted hotel development Cristimar is reinforced through its reflection in the sea. The large Montana de Guaza is a prominent backdrop to one side of the bay of Los Cristianos.
